Had a great plan. Trying on Sunday morning. Got up when I woke up. Hopped under the shower and went to the Apple Store on Fifth Avenue. It's open 24/7.
Status of success of plan is uncertain at this moment. There is a lone. Estimated waiting time is between 2-4 hours. Not as good as I was hoping for but better then on launch day. The only big problem is that while I'm waiting in line from the other side of the street a horrendous low sickening noise infiltrates my whole body. I'm surprised I'm still standing in line. I'm surprised anybody else is still in line.
This brings me to my observation that in public people in NY don't complain. Nobody is calling the cops about this noise. People just ignore it. They block it from their existence. It's just not there. They talk and interact as if nothing is out of the ordinary. Anyway. I moved a bit further and hope to be around the corner soon.
While in line there are Apple people walking up and down the line. Handing out leaflets with data and voice plans. Answering any questions people might have.
Going to give it a shot. Ignore the noise. At least I'm in line.
Sent from my iPhone
Its become really international now. Have seen people standing in line in Denmark, Japan, new Zealand, live video from Rotterdam and Brussels. That makes it easier.
Plus I already have the iPhone. I'm writing from the bloody thing as I write! So I'm definitely not going to stand in line tonight. Will just go to work as normal and then in the afternoon I will move to an Apple Store and see what happens. If everything works out my next posting will come from an iPhone 3G.
The excitement is rising. Had a talk with a colleague. He wants one and he wants it now. Can't wait anymore. Then I understood why people stand in line. At least when they stand in line they have done everything they can to get it. Then they just have to wait until H-Hour. Kinda relaxing. No more worries. Then it's to bigger gods.
So the news is that the Apple Store's also open up at 8.00 AM on Friday. Not much of a surprise. So right now I'm estimating that I'll be in line early in the afternoon. Thursday night I'll be going by the Apple Store on Fifth Avenue to check out how many people are in line. Then on Friday I first will check what's happening in Europe and the launches in the rest of the world, maybe by that time iPhone Web 2.0 has launched so I have something to play with until I've read about the first news in the morning.
Nice rational plans. I know I will throw them out of the window if teh fever really hits.
